Vision 2040 Indaba Kickstarts In Gqeberha, Eastern Cape
SANParks’ Annual Vision 2040 Indaba starts in Gqeberha with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) Minister, Dion George and Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane as they joined various stakeholders in dialogue about the future of South Africa’s conservation.
The much-anticipated inaugural Annual Vision 2040 Indaba is kickstarting in Gqeberha. Eastern Cape today with the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dr Dion George and host province’s Premier Oscar Mabuyane. Featuring a range of thought engaging discussions on the future of a South African inclusive conservation model and an exhibition giving expression to how Vision 2040 in finding form across communities, the event is set to take place from 03 to 05 September 2025.
SANParks’ Board Chairperson, Pam Yako, is set to deliver a welcome speech that will provide a historical context about Vision 2040 and forecast what the organisation seeks to achieve over the next 15 years. The Vision 2040 Indaba is a pioneering three-day event convened under the theme: “People in Harmony with Nature: Championing Prosperity”. It represents a pivotal step towards implementing SANParks’ inclusive, transformative conservation framework that is co-created with stakeholders across the country.
The Indaba will host a cross-section of society, including government, civil society, land claimant communities, academia, women, the private sector, youth, and conservation partners. Through reflective dialogue, visionary addresses, and collaborative breakaway sessions, the event aims to chart a path of thrivable coexistence between biodiversity conservation, social justice, and economic empowerment.
As custodians of South Africa’s natural heritage, SANParks views Vision 2040 as a collective call to action where shared ownership, inclusivity, and innovation will drive the future of conservation.
